Exactly How To Have The Best Sex Ever According To The Experts

While you don’t always have days notice before having sex (what fun would that be?), if you are planning a romantic evening, there are a few things you can do beforehand to help you enjoy yourself. It’s all about being in the right mindset and setting yourself up for an unforgettable experience. According to a few sex and relationship experts, there are many ways to get in the mood and feel your sexiest before taking things to the bedroom. Whether you have a few days or just an hour, here’s what to think, eat, and do in advance for your best sex yet, according to Prevention.

1. Get your mind in the mood. “Start thinking sexy thoughts and think about what’s going to turn you on,” advises licensed clinical social worker Rachel Sussman. She believes it’s important to focus on what you find sexy and pleasurable, as opposed to spending time planning what you may do to your partner.

2. Tick tasks off your to-do list. If you’re stressed out about any work deadlines or pressing errands, you may find it hard to shift into the carefree mindset necessary for having amazing sex. Clearing your to-do list “allows your mind to stop focusing on work lists and pivot toward pleasure,” says certified sex therapist and coach Sari Cooper.

3. Choose food wisely. Leah Millheiser, MD, suggests steering clear of foods that could lead to bloating or bad breath, like lentils and beans. Snacking on a few aphrodisiacs like chocolate, figs, and cinnamon also couldn’t hurt.

4. Send a sext. Sexting can be a fun and flirty way to get you and your partner excited with anticipation of the night ahead. Cooper advises finding a new sex position and sending a picture or link to your partner sometime during the day.

5. Meditate. Clearing the mind and being present can help you get the most out of sex, according to both Cooper and Sussman. Try using a meditation app like Headspace, focusing on your breath, or listening to music right before you get it on. “As you start getting frisky, the best thing you can do is be present. Try to focus on exactly what’s going on in front of you in that moment,” Sussman says.
