Fly To Japan for Only 392 Round Trip

Japan is hardly considered close to the U.S.—it takes about 11 hours to fly from the West Coast to Tokyo—so it’s often overlooked as a travel destination for anyone on a budget. Despite the distance, Travel+Leisure points out that there’s a surprisingly smart and simple way to score insanely cheap flights to Japan, without waiting for a flash sale.

The key, they suggest, is searching for flights to Nagoya, rather than Kyoto or Tokyo. The major city in central Honshu is just an hour and a half from Kyoto and a three-hour train ride from Tokyo. What’s more, flights to Nagoya are surprisingly affordable year-round. According to Airfare Spot, there are flights from Los Angeles to Nagoya for $392 return via Air Canada, while Travel+Leisure found a deal for $466 round-trip flights from San Diego. Yes, by using this simple booking hack, you can jet to Japan for the same price as a domestic vacation. Not bad, right?
